Zinc borate is used in wood preservation as a corrosion inhibitor, fire-retardant, infrared absorber and fungicide. The resulting wood is highly resistant to decay, fungi and insects. Zinc borate is used as a flame retardant and smoke suppressant in PVC, epoxy and other polymers, most notably in flexible PVC. It is a halogen free flame retardant.
